Presented to the village to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment in 2002.
Addingham; David Harrison; Gordon Campbell; Military; Parish Council; People
The Duke of Wellington's Regimement (the ‘Dukes’) were known as the ‘The Havercake Lads’. The nickname comes from the oatmeal bread cake which was the staple food of the Yorkshire Pennine towns and villages where the soldiers were recruited. Reputedly, the recruiting sergeant stuck havercakes on his sword when seeking out ‘volunteers’. The print was presented to the village to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Regiment, 1702 - 2002
