The Havercake Lads presentation in 2002. The print was presented by The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Regiment in 2002.
In 1782 the Duke of Wellington's Regiment became the 1st Yorkshire West Riding Regiment and on its return to England following its campaign in the American War of Independence it acquired the nickname 'The Havercake Lads'. The havercake is a type of oat pancake which was a staple of the diet in the north.
