This was not the first passenger train to run between Skipton and Ilkley although readers might well be forgiven for thinking it was for the scene would be very similar. It was actually the first train from Skipton celebrating the opening of the Yorkshire Dales Railway from Embsay Junction to Threshfield for Grassington on 29 July 1902. MR Class '1' 0-4-4T No.1536 was resplendant in crimson lake livery, lined in black and gold with polished brass numerals and fittings. It was decorated with flags and flowers and carried placards on each side proclaiming "Success to the Yorkshire Dales Railway". Between Skipton and Embsay Junction, Grassington trains ran over Skipton & Ilkley railway tracks.
