William Lemmon was a former Headmaster of the High Council School.
This booklet is a history of Methodism from 1744 to 1973. It includes a record of the visits of John Wesley to the area, including in 1766 when he is known to have stopped and preached in the village. There are other dates when it is likely he at least passed through en route, since he journeyed extensively in Yorkshire.
