Typical local passenger motive power of the I 940s/50s. Ex-MR Class '2P' 4-4-0 No.40459 heads towards the Short Bank Road overbridge with 3 carriages, bound for Ilkley. Although the gradient had eased from I in 85 to I in 90 these 7ft driving wheeled locomotives could and did make hard work of the climb, particularly if there was any damp about when they often slipped to a standstill.
